MGS vs WGS netball match 2024

A Sixth Form team from The Manchester Grammar School took part in a charity fundraiser netball match against a team from Withington Girls’ School on a dreary Tuesday evening. As part of their 'Feel Fab Feb' campaign aimed at promoting mental health and wellbeing, this activity was played at Withington Girls’ School. Despite the weather, which forced the game to take place inside the sports hall due to rain, both teams played with great spirit.

School Captain at MGS, Daniel, said: “Events like this are so important for us as we get the opportunity to come together as a school community and celebrate so much of what we share. Seeing everyone having such a great time together, both on and off the court, was a reminder to just how special the relationship and history between MGS and WGS is.

“Our heartfelt thanks to Withington for hosting the game and extending a warm welcome to all. Kudos to all players, whether seasoned or newcomers, for contributing to a truly entertaining match! We look forward to future fixtures with Withington and anticipate an upcoming game against Manchester High School for Girls (sport yet to be decided!) in the coming weeks”.

Sonali, Head Girl at Withington Girls’ School, said: “All proceeds from the netball match will be going to UNICEF and Alzheimer's Society, two wonderful charities that provide dedicated support to some of the most vulnerable groups in our local and international societies. UNICEF strives to empower children globally to reach their full potential through child protection, education, healthcare and sanitation - as a result, WGS is proud to support UNICEF this month through our Feel Fab Feb initiative. Similarly, Alzheimer's Society campaigns for greater awareness of the challenges people with dementia face, and how we can tackle this through ground-breaking research and support services. Thank you so much to everyone who supported the event - your donations will truly make a fantastic impact!”

Thank you to everyone involved from both schools who were able to make this happen!
