Once again, MGS is proud to announce it has been named as one of the top 100 cricketing schools in the country by The Cricketer Magazine.
The magazine has published its special supplement, ‘The Playing Fields of England’, which is an A-Z guide to the top 100 cricketing schools in the country.
Captain and Vice-Captain Sam Perry and Olly Pooler accepted a glass plaque today to recognise MGS’s place on the top 100 list.
Editor of the magazine, former bowler and now commentator, Simon Hughes said: “Schools’ cricket is a superb introduction to the greatest game on earth. It emphasises fun and competitiveness and teamwork and dealing with awkward situations. The ‘Playing Fields of England’ is a celebration of the best of school sport, the grounds, the facilities, the coaching, the fixture lists and the general commitment to playing.”
Among the pupils who have attended MGS and gone to play cricket professional include Michael Atherton OBE (Lancashire and England), John Crawley (Hampshire, Lancashire and England), David Green (Lancashire and Gloucestershire), Mark Crawley (Lancashire and Notts), Gary Yates (Lancashire), Mark Chilton (Lancs and also a former MGS Director of Cricket) and Scott Richardson (Yorkshire and Leics).
