A young swimming ace from MGS is making waves after breaking a national record.
Joshua Dixon, 10, a Year 6 pupil at MGS, recently represented the School at the Association of Junior Independent Schools Championships (AJIS) held at Darwen Leisure Centre. Joshua, who is from Marple, claimed the gold medal in the 25m butterfly event, breaking an AJIS record that had stood for 10 years. His time of just over 14 seconds was nearly two seconds quicker than the previous record of 16.28 seconds.
Not content with a gold medal, Joshua captained the team to silver medals in both relay events.
His success comes on top of five gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal at a recent swimming gala in Bolton, a performance that resulted in him securing sufficient points to be awarded the most successful male junior swimmer of the meet.
As well as swimming and playing water polo at MGS, Joshua trains with Stockport Metro four times a week.
Joshua's parents Mike and Jill said: "Joshua has loved water sports from an early age and we are delighted with his progress. We would like to thank both MGS and his coaches at Stockport Metro for all their support and guidance."
